ManniGlas® and Fiberfrax®: Alternative Material Solutions

Posted by Joe

Looking for economical high temperature solutions? ManniGlas and Fiberfrax may be lower cost alternatives to dense and sponge rubber Silicone gaskets and seals. [more]

ManniGlas is made from non-respirable, electrical grade glass fibers held in place with a binder system to satisfy low smoke and odor requirements. These products have an operating temperature of 400 F to 1200 F based on product selection. This provides a low cost alternative to silicone and ceramic fiber gasketing materials. It excels in applications requiring superior thermal resistance where space is limited.

Markets utilizing these materials include Appliance, Automotive, Hearth Products, Lighting, Boilers and Steam Trace Lines.

Advantages of ManniGlas include:

  • High-temperature stability
  • High-humidity stability
  • UL 94V-O for non-flammability
  • Weight reduction
  • Ease to die cut into intricate shapes
  • Flexible to conform to a 90 degree bend

Fiberfrax is a ceramic fiber paper consisting of randomly oriented ceramic fibers held in place with a latex binder system. These products have an operating temperature between 400 F and 2450 F based on product selection. Blending different fibers, binders and additives allows for a variety of Fiberfrax paper products for a wide range of applications. This provides a lower cost alternative to Silicone.

Markets utilizing these materials include Aerospace, Appliance, Ceramic and Glass, Petro Chemical, Automotive and Steel.

Advantages of Fiberfrax include:

  • High-temperature stability
  • Low thermal conductivity
  • Low heat storage
  • Weight reduction
  • Thermal shock resistance
  • High heat resistance
  • Easy to wrap, shape or cut
